Please join your neighbors and local farmers at the July 17th Walkerton Farmers' Market located at the boat landing. The Walkerton Farmers' Market is sponsored by King and Queen Community Development Corporation and is free to the public. The Market operates from 9AM-12PM on the third Saturday of each month. Its a great way to spend the morning.

Personal Budgeting & Savings Workshop

Now more than ever it is important to have a financial plan for your family. Join us to improve or refresh your budgeting skills. This workshop focuses on the methods of planning and executing an effective budget. Participants will learn how to establish a savings plan for emergency and other savings goals. This workshop is April 13th at 6:30 PM at the King and Queen Community Development, Inc. Office in Walkerton, across from the Post Office. Basic Money Management Workshop Series

King and Queen Community Development, Inc. (KQCD) is pleased to let you know that we are sponsoring a Basic Money Management Workshop Series during April, which is Financial Literacy Month. Each Tuesday in April we will conduct a different workshop, the topics are Banking Basics, Budget and Savings, Credit and Homeownership. These workshops are free and open to anyone who wishes to participate.

The workshops will be held at the KQCD office in Walkerton. Each workshop will be offered twice, once in the morning from 9AM â€“ 11PM and once in the evening from 6:30PM â€“ 8:30PM. The class sizes are small to encourage participation and sharing. We are using a curriculum from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The FDIC came to King and Queen on March 6th and provided training to all the instructors who will be teaching in April.

These workshops are good resources for young adults who are just graduating high school, families who are setting up a new household, those adults, no matter their age, who have never had banking relationships and anyone who just need a refresher on basic money management. If you are interested in registering, you can call our office at 804-769-9656 and leave a message on our voice mail. You can also go to our website at www.kqcd.org and download a registration form or you can fax us at 888-236-8339. I am atttaching a registration form for your convenience.

If this is not something you can use, please pass it along. We are accepting registration on a first come, first served basis. Seating is limited, please respond early.

Local Trainers Needed For Money Management Workshops

Now more than ever families need to understand basic financial information. Being able to make informed judgments about the use and management of money can make a difference not only for your household, but for generations. Basic knowledge of finances can save you money, keep you from being scammed, help you stay out of debt, and help you weather hard times.

King and Queen Community Development, Inc., has partnered with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to provide basic money management training in King and Queen County. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is an independent agency of the United States government that regulates banks and protects funds depositors place in banks and savings associations. The FDIC initiated a national financial education campaign by launching Money Smart, a comprehensive personal financial education curriculum designed to help individuals develop financial skills and positive banking relationships. The FDIC supports the Money Smart program by providing free Train the Trainer sessions.

In preparation for the Money Smart training that will be available to the public in April, KQCD and the FDIC are looking for people who are interested in teaching basic money management. The FDIC will train those interested to deliver its Money Smart curriculum. The session will provide information on how to teach the Money Smart curriculum and does not teach the curriculum content itself. Those trained will assist KQCD in the delivery of the curriculum throughout the month of April, which is Financial Literacy Month. After the initial April series of workshops, instructors can coordinate additional workshops in the community if desired. If you are interested in being trained to teach basic financial literacy, please email info@kqcd.org for a registration package or call 804-769-9656 and leave your contact information. The Train the Trainer session will be held on Saturday, March 6th, from 9:00AM â€“ 4:00PM, lunch will be provided. The registration deadline for Money S mart Train the Trainer session is March 1st. This training is free.

Financial Literacy is a necessary skill. According to a 2009 Consumer Financial Literacy Survey, 41 percent of U.S. adults, or more than 92 million people living in America, gave themselves a grade of C, D, or F on their knowledge of personal finance. Please join us in making a tangible difference though basic money management training. King and Queen Community Development, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization. KQCD Christmas Tree Lighting

Hello everyone. I’d like to invite you to our Christmas Tree Lighting on Tuesday (tomorrow) from 5-7PM at the King and Queen Community Development office in Walkerton. This is a casual gathering. Cora Harvey Armstrong will be leading the Christmas carols. The tree will be lit at 6 PM. No need to bring anything, just holiday cheer. Hope to see you there!

Farmers Market Rain or Shine

I have always said, anything worth doing is worth doing in the rain. The Walkerton Farmers Market will open at 9:00 am Saturday morning. The wonderful people who nurture the good foods we eat are a hearty bunch. They will be there. So put on a warm hat, bring your thermos and join us for the last Farmers Market of the season. Program Committee Hosts Ice Cream Social

The KQCD Program Committee is in need of more members so that we can plan some fun events and educational programs. So far this summer, we have offered 2 classes at the KQCD office and held one Farmers' Market in Walkerton . All have been very successful without a lot of work! And they have been fun. We still have 2 more Farmers' Markets planned: August 15 and September 19 from 9AM - 12PM at the Walkerton Boat Landing. We now want to have an event on the Marriott School grounds with a mix of music and activities. Don't you want to be a part of this? Let me know if you can come to our next meeting: Tuesday, August 18 @ 7pm at the KQCD office in Walkerton. I will bring the ice cream. Bring your favorite topping and we will have ourselves an ice cream social in beautiful downtown Walkerton. Hope to see you there.

Walkerton Farmers' Market on August 15th

Join us for the next Walkerton Farmers’ Market on August 15th from 9AM-12PM. Last month, a wide variety of home-grown vegetables were sold by Paula Garner and her family. Tesi Weimer and her sister from Pampatike Hill Farm sold grass fed and finished beef and Pearce Gardner sold free range eggs. Austin Lewis, the author and illustrator of Bad Boy Comics, sold his comics and ice cream. Mary Sader, who sold her wine cork earrings, shared a booth with her mother, Ann Chenoweth, who sold her very popular maps and cards. Adults and children were fascinated with the new children’s book, Do Spiders Wear Leggins’ When it’s Cold Outside? Illustrated by Walkerton’s own Buttons Boggs. Plants and flowers rounded out the offerings. KQCD (King and Queen Community Development Corporation) hosted the Farmers’ Market in Walkerton. Ed Dunn donated the proceeds from his vegetable sales to KQCD. Don’t miss the next Walkerton Farmers’ Market August 15th from 9AM to 12PM.
